Ancient toos region is located between two mountain chains Hezar masjed in north and Binalood in south.
This region along the Kashafrood River, contained numerous villages.
Mounds and large sites of toos region shoWS its importancy and validity in prehistoric Period.
But at the end of Sassanid period, Toos regin was a suburb of Abar shahr (Nayshaboor) and in the first centuries of Islamic period it was considered as a district of Nayshaboor state.
It consisted four main cites. Tabaran, Nowghan, radkan and toroghbaz, tabaran was the greatest. Perhaps the greatness and flourishing of tabaran overshadowed other cities of Toos and from the middle of fifth century on, the region was known as Toos in 12th century A.D Quzes destroyed this city. Then in 1220 A.D it was completely ravanged by Mongols, but after a few times it was improved. Finally 1388 A.D "Miranshah" son of .Taymoor" crushed this region and little by little Tabaran was forgotten.

FERDOWSI
Hakim Abulghasm Ferdowsi was born in paz, one of the thousand villages of Toos in 940 A.D. His family were of literally feudal (Land owners). Ferdowsi started of Shahnama at his fourty when there were fight every where.
samanid dynasty declined and Qaznavids invaded khorassan in 994 A.D. when Ferdowsi was 65, he was introduced to Sultan Mahmood, but according to the political conditions of Iran, contrary to the beginning of his reign, sultan Mahmood didn't need the iranian wise statesmen.
Ferdoesi was treated with anger and the end of his 80 years of life were the years of wondering poverty and grief. At last in 1025 he died in Toos buried there.

Shahnama
the only everlasting memory of "hakim Abolghasm Ferdowsi" this wise thought and moral teaching is "Shahnama" with about 60000 verses. Amir Abo-Mansur Mohamad-ibn Abdol-Razaq has the first prose Shahnama (Abu Mansuri) written in Toos in 957, when Ferdowsi was young.
After that "Daghigh" was the first poet who tried to turn Shahnama Abu-Mansuri into verses,but after composing about one thousand verses, he was killed.
in 980 A.D, ferdowsi, began composing Shahnama and lasted 30 years.Shahnama is the manifestation of historical and semi-historical events, story of adventures of heroes, great men kings of myths and ancient kings and also the behaviour of Iranians which had been formed throughout the centuries and linked with the ideals of this old nation.
 
FERDOWSI'S TOMB
Although there isn't any thing clear about the building of Ferdowsi's Tomb,but "Nezami Aroozi" who had visited the grave in 1116 A.D, didn't say anything abut a tomb, just it was said that Ferdowsi was buried inside the gate of Razan.It seems that the old building of his tomb had been remained up to Qajar period. After a time "Asef-al-Dowleh Shirazi" head representative of Astan-e Ghods-e Razavi in Naser-aldin king reign tried to find original grave and men of Khorasan had a brick building constructed over the grave of Ferdowsi ,which was ruined after a time.In 1926, another building planned by Taherzadeh Behzad was erected. By the way mr Ghaem Magham is a person who presented his garden to national effectes reunion. Because of some technical falures, it was destroyed and a new building planned by Mr Hooshang Seyhoon who is contemporary artist it was as same as first building. It has nearly 945 sqms.
In 1968 it was finished.The architectural style of Outer facade, the columns and their capitals took from culture and art of H Achemnians dinesty and its outward appearance is the same as Cyrus Tomb in pasargad on the walls inside the room there are stone statues worked by Feraydoon Sedighi, contemporary artist, they all show stories and epic narratives of shahnama.
